(More customer reviews)I have used HP Glossy Paper for Years, but with a new Canon printer, I decided to try the Canon Glossy Photo Paper in 8x10 format. The colors are even a little more "intense" than the Hewlitt Packard paper, but it truly should be left to dry for 24 hours before you frame it. It remains tacky for at least 12 hours, and with the cost of INK (not the paper which was reasonable), I wasn't taking any chances.
Further, the thought did cross my mind that the brilliance of the colors may be another way for Canon to get you to use more ink. Therefore, I tried several where I did not check "Vivid" in the color choices, and the results were more than acceptable.
Which would I use? Although HP costs a bit more, overall I like their paper better because drying time is less than 45 minutes.

(More customer reviews)After getting the Canon i960 printer, I had to try this paper. One it was cheap. And two, the diverse reviews here intrigued me to no end. After making a few prints on this paper, I began to think I knew why the paper was so cheap...it was THAT bad!
Then, when I came to do a review, I fortunately read the one that cautioned printing on the right side of the paper. There was a right side? I then read the directions with the paper--there is indeed a right side, and it is whiter than the back. It will be hard for some to tell the difference. But the difference from printing on the right side and the wrong side is truly astounding! I'm a big glossy paper fan, but there is a nice look to this matte paper. And it is MUCH cheaper than the Photo Paper Pro. It is also much cheaper than buying greeting card paper.
But be aware, the money you save not buying more expensive photo paper will be going to buying more ink. Compared to glossy paper, this paper drinks ink. I've been making calendars with it, and was shocked to see the way the ink was consumed. Yet, I can't see making calendars with any paper than this. It makes beautiful calendars! I print a borderless 8x10 photo, using my Canon photo software on the bright white side, and a calendar page, using my calendar software, on the opposite side. The pages bind very easily with a 1/4 inch plastic binding comb. And as I said, it makes a strikingly beautiful photo calendar.
Thus, if you have only one type of Canon paper on hand, I would have this one. But if you can't give up the glossy look for photos, it won't work for you. Personally, I prefer using Kodak paper when making glossy prints on my Canon. And Kodak has a satin finished paper, but there is the Kodak name all over the back. One of the great things about this Canon paper is you can print on both sides. But do make certain you know the front from the back, before printing a photo.

Like most printers, the output is much better when using the manufacture's own paper (as opposed to the cheaper generic paper), but there is no need to buy the most expensive "Pro" paper as neither I nor my wife could discern ANY difference between the two. There may be a benifit to the "Pro" paper that cannot be seen (lasts longer?) but at almost twice the cost it is not worth it - this paper will produce the highest quality prints on your Canon printer (I think they look better than the ones I get from the photo lab).

(More customer reviews)The reality is different brand of printers likes certain brand of paper. The best result is to match the makers of the same printer and paper together. I used canon, Epson, HP, and generic brand of paper. I find Epson paper to be the most compatible photo paper overall, it prints well on Epson and Canon printers. Canon papers are good too and they print very well on their Canon printers. I used HP photo paper on Epson and Canon and the ink doesn't dry/catch that well on either, it prints fine on its own HP.
Canon Photo Paper Plus Glossy II
I had great success with the same paper on the 4x6 size, so I decided to get this for 8.5x11; after my Epson Premium Glossy 8 1/2 x 11 Inch Photo Paper 20 Count (S041286) went out. I been using Epson paper on a Canon i950 (got canon MP560 also), because I used to have a couple of older Epson printers. Sadly this paper while looking good didn't have the wow factor that I got from the Epson Premium Glossy. A closer look at the paper surfaces, I think Epson paper looked a little more professional and the price range were similar. I guess I have to use up this pack and go back to Epson paper. The different is very small, but my eyes prefer the Epson more vivid color and sharpness. The color printout on the Canon paper is closer to what I see on my PC screen.

Not what you want for a punchie bright sunset, but it makes the greatest soft people kids and sleeping dogs, shots. I also tried some foggy trees that came out great! The colors are very true, and while not quite as vibrant as regular photo paper, this gives a real true matte finish. While it's not right for every print, it brings a whole new dimension to the right image. Even I can create Fine Art!

(More customer reviews)After reading the reviews comparing the 2 papers, I purchased this paper Canon Photo Paper Pro II 4" x 6" (100 Sheets) (2737B012)to compare it to HP's Premium Photo Paper. I used an HP Photosmart 475 with an HP 97 ink cartridge to produce all prints in the comparison. Bottom line: I found no appreciable difference between the 2 papers in terms of resolution, color saturation, or brilliance. The Canon paper is slightly glossier and I don't have to deal with the end tab. Both are good enough for me so I'll take the best deal!

(More customer reviews)I print with a Canon Pro 9000 dye injet. Usually high gloss papers along with dye inks give you the brightest, most intense colors. Unfortunately, the high gloss papers have the problem of light reflection when framed under glass. Mat type papers don't have this problem, but the colors are not as snappy and the surface of a mat paper does not hold up well to handling. I tried the Canon Semi Gloss Plus looking for a compromise and I found a real winner. The Pro 9000 just loves this paper! I've printed the same photo on this paper and on Canon's Photo Paper Pro top of the line high gloss. The colors of the semi gloss plus are almost as intense as the Photo Paper Pro. This paper has just enough luster to give the photo some snap, but has much less trouble with light reflection when framed under glass than the Photo Paper Pro does. It stands up to handling so much better than a mat paper. It is resistent to smudges and fingerprints. It does an incredible job of handling the bright red colors. And best of all, Canon quotes the same time span for resistence to color change as the Photo Paper Pro when used with the new ChromaLife 100 inks: 25 years framed under glass and 100 years stored in the dark in an album or box. If you have a Canon printer using the new ChromaLife 100 inks, give this paper a try. You, too, will become a believer.

(More customer reviews)I've been using Canon paper exclusively for several years ... pretty much a consistent amount, consistent pattern of usage. Never had anything but PERFECT results; I've encouraged everyone I know to stick with Canon. BUT... it's all been the paper in the red-and-white packaging. I've used several KINDS of paper, too ... Photo Paper Pro, Photo Paper Plus, both glossy and matte, different sizes.
I recently got my first supply of the new "Pro Platinum" in the black sleeve. As with all Canon paper, the print is superlative. But after a few days in the printer's input tray, the paper curled up SO badly that I cannot even use it. I don't believe it's a humidity problem ... this is the same office and the same environment that literally THOUSANDS of other sheets of Canon paper have survived without any problem, whatsoever.

With the standard Canon S9000 ink and this paper, photos are rated as "archival" quality (25 years no fade) which is good enough for some of my gallery pieces. The quality of the output on this paper with the Canon S9000 is better than any printer in its class. The ink/paper combination even smells like traditional film based output. Large format photos print and dry very quickly and rarely have quality issues. One warning, the paper comes in a resealable cello wrapper. Be careful that you don't lay a photo on the outside of the wrapper. The glue can stick to the photo, destroying it.

(More customer reviews)I am amazed at the quality of the printout on this paper from my new Canon Pixma 9000 printer. I am a Canon fan so use my Canon Rebel Xsi to produce the photographs I print out on this paper. It is my first experience in using various paper types and wanted to try out this paper for some aircraft photos after reading the reviews.
It is more of a matte finish, but the colors are vibrant and true. The effect is kind of like a painting more than a photograph. It is a good choice for a classic landscape photograph.
One thing I noticed is that printouts are recommended to have a border. I found no way on the Pro 9000 printer to produce a borderless printout in the EasyPhoto Pro software. The results are fine even with the border. The reason is that the accuracy of the printout can suffer if the print were done in a borderless format.
